View Article  X-Files: I Want To Believe - Movie Review
MovieWeb - Movie Photos, Videos & More

I'll bet you would not have expected that an X-Files movie would contain neither aliens nor government conspiracies. Even the so-called psychic phenomenon involved in X-Files: I Want To Believe is highly suspect. So why do they need special agent Fox Mulder to come out of hiding so badly that apparently the government is willing to forgive the trumped up murder charges of which he was convicted in the TV series finale? Beats me....   more »

After seeing the preview trailer for Hellboy II: The Golden Army, it easily became my most-anticipated movie in July (I know everyone else is waiting for the Bat). Once I saw that director Guillermo del Toro was going to throw even more of his fabulously dark fantasy creatures into this movie than his previous effort, Pan's Labyrinth, I got very excited....   more »

Do you know director Timur Bekmambekov? If you've seen his Russian vampire flicks Night Watch or Day Watch, you will recognize his trademark spectacular, physics-defying car stunts (cars flip and leap-frog over one another) and zooming camera effects (the screen image even throbs to mimic the lead character's special rapid heartbeat condition; and we get to see someone shoot the wings off of flies) throughout Wanted, his English-language debut ...   more »

MovieWeb - Movie Photos, Videos & More

I've commented before that it's a testament to Pixar's animation and storytelling skills that they can make hard, inanimate things like cars or generally uncute creatures like bugs, rats and monsters into adorable, fun characters. That is definitely true of wall-e, where they've taken a bunch of robots and made them delightful, cute, and even romantic (after all, what could have been harder or less-lovable than a metal or polymer casing?) ...   more »

MovieWeb - Movie Photos, Videos & More

When you imagine a movie about Genghis Khan (I know you don't do that very much, but humour me) you probably imagine vast armies of Mongol warriors on horeback following an imposing, charismatic commander with power showing in his face and strength in his voice. On the contrary, this movie presents the story of a relatively soft-spoken man who was outcast and defeated many times. In fact, this version of his story begins with him shackled in a jail cell, being told that the monk sent to find his wife had died. Because you know that he's going to become a legendary conqueror, you know that this pitiful scene is just a stopover, but it is an interesting sight nonetheless ...   more »

View Article  2008 TV Season Review
Always struggling between whether to review TV seasons at calendar year-end or summer season-end, inspired by the awesome finales of Lost and Battlestar Galactica, I've decided to talk about the shows I loved, and not-so-loved this season (but no comment on shows I dropped ages ago -- that means you: Bionic Woman, Dirty Sexy Money, and Gossip Girl). It's still a lot to talk about, but if you endured the Hollywood writers' strike, you can hang in there with me now, right?   more »

MovieWeb - Movie Photos, Videos & More

Everyone seems pre-occupied with whether or not the 66-year-old Harrison Ford can still pull off the role of Indiana Jones at his age, but the real question should be whether or not this movie can live up to the legacy of fun, cinematic adventure that comes with the Indiana Jones name....   more »

While Walden Media, the studio with the magic touch when it comes to adapting children's fantasy classics for the big screen, had great success with the first Narnia movie, they don't have the same knack for making sequels...   more »

MovieWeb - Movie Photos, Videos & More
This summer is going to be jam-packed with comic-book super-heroes on the big screen, and the first one out of the secret hideout is Iron Man. While the character is definitely one of the giants of the Marvel Comics universe, he's less well-known in popular culture than others like Captain America, Hulk or Spider-Man. Most of the buzz around this movie has been within the fanboy community, but judging by its opening week box-office results, Iron Man may soon be a household name...   more »
